Offbeat Ways For New York Giants Fans &
NY Jets Fans To Save

How New York Giants fans and NY Jets fans save money

How expensive is it for New York Giants fans and NY Jets fans?

Well, let’s see… in 2015 the New York Giants real cost index of $1254 was 6th-highest, and the real cost ratio (real cost index ÷ monthly income) of 23.7% ranked eighth.

For the New York Jets, it was $544 (24th) & 10.3% (also 24th).

Not what you expected, is it? A lot of people, including myself, thought it would be a lot worse.

This is after all, the New York City area, and aside from the high cost of living, there are challenges that make it difficult to not overspend, such as:

  • Big price differences from one neighborhood to the next
  • Fast paced, borderline aggressive, life style
  • Tourist traps galore

Park & Ride.   Surrounding MetLife Stadium is a canal, a river, and an interstate highway. Once you get past those, there’s bridges, tunnels, and another river. Hell, why didn’t they just dig a moat around it?

Thank goodness for park & rides…

Food & beer.   Thank goodness for park & rides…

In New Jersey:

  • Sidelines Bar & Grill, 198 Rte 46 Fairfield, NJ 07004 (4 miles from Willowbrook Park and Ride in Wayne) - $27.50-$37.50 ($15-$25 for food & drink + $12.50 bus fare)
  • Ringside Lounge, 475 Tonnele Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07307 (3.4 miles from Edison ParkFast in Secaucus) - $39.50-$49.50 ($15-$25 + $20 parking + $4.50 Meadowlands Rail Service)

In Manhattan (very basic fare, but at these prices, you won’t complain):

  • Rudy’s Bar, 627 9 Ave, NYC 10036.   Free hot dogs! That’s right, with every drink order, you get a freebie. Beer prices are a bargain for NYC - $3 for Budweiser, $5 for Heineken. A pitcher of Blonde Ale is just 8 bucks, but that means only one free dog.
  • Papaya Dog.   Located right inside of Penn Station, this is super convenient if you’re taking the PATH train, and of course, cheap. A hot dog is $2.50, a cheeseburger $4.50, a cheese steak $5.50. If you’re thinking that this is the indoor equivalent of a dirty water dog cart, well, this place has a 3.6 rating on Yelp.

Tailgating.   Who doesn’t love a good tailgate party?

But there are a number of reasons why you might not be tailgating at your next Jets or Giants game:

  • A MetLife Stadium parking pass is too expensive.
  • The offsite parking lot you’re using doesn’t permit it.
  • Like many people that live in NYC, you don’t own a car.
  • You have a car, but the thought of spending hours in traffic makes you shudder.
  • You don’t have a grill/tailgating is costly

No car, no grill, no worries… not when you’ve got fan tailgate parties hosted by Big Blue BBQ (Giants) and Tailgate Joe (Jets). For $35 and $50, respectively, these are absolute bargains for the food alone, never mind what it would cost you in equipment and supplies if you were hosting your own tailgate party.
